Silver grabbed Blaze in his telekinesis field and leaped out the train's broken window. The car leaned away from them and inside it people screamed.

Silver didn't think. His entire body was a spasm of sheer panic. Still carrying Blaze, he levitated himself fifty feet in the air to see the entire train.

Ten cars, plus the engine, ranged along the track like beads on a string. But Silver's car had slipped the tracks and dragged diagonally in the row of cars. Its weight pulled the cars before and behind it, which lost their grip in the rails and slid loose.

Silver's car slanted off the edge of the cliff, hauling the other cars with it. Metal screeched and brakes squealed, as the doomed train seemed to claw at its rails in futile terror.

Silver extended both hands. The optic cable woven into his gloves lit blue as it amplified his telekinetic chaos power.

He grasped all ten cars in his field, but he had to hold each car in his mind--its shape and position. Silver lifted the broken car first--the weight didn't trouble him, but its connection to the other cars did. It slithered in his grip like a wet fish. The other cars crashed off the tracks and Silver caught them before they fell off the cliff.

Now the entire train floated in the air, all ten cars. Sweat soaked Silver's fur and dripped from his muzzle. He set the engine on the tracks, then the second car, and the third--

Shadow stepped into sight, arms folded. He watched the floating train. A ball of chaos energy sizzled in his right hand. He grinned at Silver and shrugged.

Save the train, he seemed to say. I'll wait until afterward to kill you.

Silver set the entire train on the tracks with a crash of metal, and rocketed himself toward the cliff top, away from Shadow.

The chaos spear caught him between the shoulder blades. Silver's levitation failed. He fell into the dense pines on the cliff top. Branches tore at his body--then his skull connected with a thick branch. Darkness exploded over the world.
