Looking for some feedback on this. I'm doing a couple of pics for S. P. Davis' upcoming fic, The Runes Of Awakening. (If you read Project Mobitropolis and want more, he has delivered.) This is a pic of an Arack city, and as you have probably guessed, they're a race of Mobian spiders. Here's the excerpt I'm working from:

The buildings were arranged in spirals, with streets between, and Sonic had no doubt that if one viewed Sol-Hayyim from above, it would look like a web. The buildings themselves were long and flat on the outskirts of the city, and gradually became narrower and taller as they spiralled inward, culminating in the centerpoint tower, an oblisk-shaped skyscraper that housed the autocrat of the city (known as the Sector Lord) and his government. The tower could be seen from anywhere in the city, and Sonic glanced up at it as he walked. A foreboding pillar of black that cast its shadow eastward over the city.
If there was one key feature of Arack technology that Sonic thought set it apart from any other that he was used to, it would probably be the conspicuous absence of wheels. Such a fundamental necessity for the advancement of any culture, and yet nothing round seemed to exist here among the Aracks. Their vehicles of transportation all hovered or walked, shambling along the streets like giant four- six- or eight-legged insects. Some machines even slithered, if that was an accurate enough description, but nothing at all rolled. Angular tram-like vehicles used magnets to speed along rails that ran beside the roads, and every so often stopped to let people off.

So, what do you guys think? I think the spires need lights in them, so they look like skyscrapers, twisted as they are. But somehow I don't think the lights should be arranged geometrically ... and do you think the web in the foreground covers up too much?

I really like this picture!! It's just so different. Dig creepyness! It just looks so strange, it catches your attention! I love the color of the sky, and the clash of the black. ;-)

Wow, they really do look like webs. A city of Spiderwebs... that's so cool. I think that the web in the foreground is perfectly fine they way it is. And I do think that there should be some lights, that way it would look more like it was a lived in city.

First off, I love the sky. The color scheme is lovely. I'm always impressed by the way you do backgrounds and landscapes. And what you have so far is really nice. I can't wait to see it finished.

But you asked for critiques, so here is my opinion . . .

I think it looks a little bare--something else needs to be in there. Um, Lights would definately make them look like skyscapers. And perhaps the main building he was describing--the really tall one--should be taller and skinnier. I also think the city seems too linear for what the excerpt is describing.

I would also love to see how you think the Mobian Spiders and their modes of transportation look (especially the walking one), so perhaps you can add that in--if it won't make the pic too busy and crowded--I'm not sure what you had in mind.

But, hey, this is just my opinion. Feel free to take what you think is helpful and throw out what you think is dumb.
