Artist's Comments

I discovered what an awesome thing reference is. Can't draw cliffs, mountains and trees? Get reference! Google image search is your friend.

This is a scene from Shax's fic Project Mobitropolis. It is as follows:

Sonic had his own difficulties, though. With one dangling hand, he held onto Tails. With the other, he held onto the backpack, which had left the fox's grip at the time of his falling, and which Sonic had managed to grab simultaniously with the rescue of his companion. He stared through the space between bag and fox, down a half-kilometre of sheer drop. At the base of it, he saw the railroad that he had spotted from the Tornado. It looked just as distant from this altitude.
"Help me, Sonic!" Tails pleaded.
Sonic tried to hoist them up, but their combined weight was too heavy to manage. His own centre of gravity shifted precariously and threatened to hurl both of them (and baggie makes three) into the rocky abyss.
"Can't you fly?" Sonic demanded.
"I can't!" Tails replied urgently, "I have to get a boost! It doesn't work unless I jump!"
There was a mechanical noise far below them. A black train was running along the track, now, its carriages distantly thudding and screeching as its smoke filled the canyon. Sonic looked from bag to fox, sweat pouring down his forehead, along his snout, and dripping like rain into infinity.
Three times he almost dropped the bag, but hesitated each time. Losing the emeralds meant losing his quest. The prince and his robots would surely locate the bag before Sonic had a hope of finding his way to the bottom of this canyon. Again, he tried to hoist up the bag, but the effort only shifted his body, creating a rain of little stones that fell from the cliff beneath him and into space. The knowledge of what was happening instilled terror in the young fox, who began to wail helplessly, and he began grappling and clawing at Sonic's arm.
Sonic was wailing too, now, the sheer helplessness of the situation hitting home. Death to Tails or death to Mobitropolis, and if he waited too long to decide, death to all of them at once.

 Excellent job! =D I agree with you, google is a good reference to look up things you can't draw. I really like how you did this. The cliffs, expression, and everything is just amazing.

Hmm.. why does Sonic's left hand have five fingers and the other has four? But, I think the position of the hands claps is a bit off. If you do it in real life, you get a different look. Just my opinion.

But overall, it's still a great picture. Great scene for that fic. :D

Critiques are not bad as you may think... At least there's people out there willing to help you improve. <3

Hm. The only things I didn't much like about this were the placement of the sig -- a little odd, doesn't blend in quite as well as I'm sure you meant -- and the left parts of the railroad tracks. They sort of change direction abruptly in a few places, and remind me of a game of Railroad Tycoon there.

Is extremely nice and panoramic! Not to mention Tails, again, looks very cute. The way the ears fold back is perfect.

Yahoo image searching is also good *bricked* Anyway~! XD

I was thinking 'Couldn't Tails just FLY up or something'? Then I read the artist comment and all was explained. XD That is an interesting idea on Tails's flight ability though...Yesitis. The emeralds are so shiney, and I love how you can see the red one glow through the bad. ^^ Both Sonic and Tails's expressions are great! They both look so scared. o.o; And the coloring is superb ^_^ Love the style~

NR: I MUST say: This is BY FAR your best work ever. I have no idea why, but your style seems to really kick in when you put everything into a huge contrast. Plus, I really love that angle.

:jawdrop: I LOVE THAT!!!

The layout on this is just... TOO! COOL! XD I looove the LOD on the trantracks. :giggle: The distant mountains are quite natural looking.... I, and I think many other artists, have trouble with that, but you do it VERY well. :worship:

Is this newer colouring style recent, or have I just been missing it because I've not been around? ^^; Well, I really love it!! The use of texture is AWESOME, and the cell fill influence on the foreground characters is really gorgeous! Wooow.

Oh yes.... Google Image certain is certainly MY friend. XD I use that thing like crazy! :mwahaha:

ugh, I can't read your fics anymore, though! ;-; Do you maybe have a place besides NR.org where I can read them? o.O (sounds retarded, I know. XD ) NR.org still won't let me on. ;-;

Anyway, this pic is fantastic!! What a treat. +fave for a best friend

Yeah, they're also posted on fanfiction.net, and I'm starting to post my more recent ones on [link] . I could also email 'em to you from one of my non-nr.org addresses. :-)

Ever since I discovered CPC, I've begun trying to challenge myself and learn some of his secrets. I also learned that using earth tone-colors, and not so many bright primary colors, makes pics that turn out more pleasing to the eye. I found a bunch of pics I liked and used the colors directly from them via the eyedropper. So the colors in this pic are very genuine.
