I see so many young fans drawing Knuckles on the outdoors Master Emerald shrine from Sonic Adventure, guarding the Master Emerald.

Which strikes me as boring and unsafe. What's Knux do when it rains? He's setting himself up to die of exposure.

No, before SA, there was the Hidden Palace, deep in the bowels of the Floating Island, where the Master Emerald was hidden. And after having it stolen so many times, I don't think Knux would just leave his emerald out in the weather. He'd keep it hidden. In the dark. In the palace. And he'd guard it with WEAPONS.

Shadow's got nothing on Knuckles's weapons cache. I imagine that by this time, Knux's paranoia knows no bounds.

Made hastily in Painter. Pillars made by tracing a photo of pillars in Egypt.

Edit: Added some texture and made the shading a little less sloppy. Still kind of sloppy, but this wasn't meant to be a real fancy pic anyway. :-)

I know this is an older drawing but I came across it and really love it. I love the design of it all really, it's beautiful and peaceful. I like the idea a lot.

BEAUTIFUL. As soon as I seen this I knew exactly where it was - Hidden palace. Excellent interpretation of it. Retro with a new spin on it. Well done.

I do believe you would be right.
Those young fans are just drawing it how the Sonic X cartoon and Sonic Adventures portrays it though. So you really can't blame them.

SWEET CHAOS, YES. I love the lighting on this, it feels all nice and dark just like any good hidden epic temple should. I also agree with you about the logic of having him with the Master Emerald in Hidden Palace rather than on that SA shrine, if you ask me, I think that this would have looked a lot better and made a heck of a lot more sense. Also, I just like the idea of a super-paranoid Knuckles guarding the Master Emerald with a giant weapons cache, but that's just me :D
